Bracketology – 3/5 – The Real Championship Week

5 tickets punched! 27 to go! In what is the beginning of the most thrilling three weeks in sports, conference championship week is upon us. Murray St, Radford, Lipscomb, Michigan, and Loyola earned their spot on dance floor this weekend. Some in dramatic fashion, Cincinnati native Carlik Jones hitting a game-winner for Radford as time expired, and some not so much, Murray St and Loyola grinding down opponents. This week is when things get crazy, when the madness is officially put into March.

As for where the bracket stands as of now…

Greater Cincinnati Teams

Xavier – The Muskies wrapped up their first ever regular season Big East title by surviving at DePaul on Saturday. Barring a first round exit in the conference tournament, they have a high likelihood of ending up on the top seed line, another first in program history. They will play Thursday against Georgetown or St. John’s.

Cincinnati – The Bearcats made the city 3 for 3 (I count NKU in Cincinnati) on regular season titles on Sunday with a marquee win at Wichita St. This was the type of win that Cincinnati needed to show the nation they are forreal. With that win, they have the inside track on a 2-seed, however, they may need to win the AAC tournament to stay there.

Northern Kentucky – The Norse had the most disappointing weekend of possibly any team in the country. The top-seed got upset by Cleveland St after starting off the game 13-0. The Norse’s run at a second straight tournament comes to an end. They will head to the NIT, and maybe even get another game in Highland Heights.
